GLENDALE HEIGHTS WOMAN GUILTY IN FATAL HIT AND RUN ACCIDENT Faces up to 14 Years in the Illinois Department of Corrections WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that a Talena S. Suggs, 37 (d.o.b. 12/30/68), of 238 Shorewood Drive, Glendale Heights was found guilty after a bench trial before Judge Michael Burke of Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Death or Personal Injury in connection with a hit and run accident that claimed the life of a Glendale Heights man. On November 2, 2005, Glendale Heights Police responded to a report of a man lying on Glen Ellyn Road in Glendale Heights. Upon their arrival, Police officers found Willie Barfield of Glendale Heights lying in the road. The apparent victim of a hit and run accident, Mr. Barfield was pronounced dead at the scene. Shortly after the incident, Suggs was pulled over by State Police along I-290 for driving a vehicle with a damaged windshield. Suggs was not ticketed and allowed to go with only a warning. The following morning, after hearing about the hit and run accident in Glendale Heights, State Police contacted the Glendale Height Police Department and shared their information regarding Ms. Suggs’ traffic stop the previous evening. The ensuing investigation led to a seven-count indictment against Ms. Suggs. A sentencing hearing has yet to be scheduled.
