DU PAGE COUNTY CHILDREN’S ADVOCACY CENTER HONORED BY DU PAGE COUNTY BOARD WHEATON – The DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center will be honored tomorrow by the DuPage County Board for providing twenty years of vital service to the children and families of DuPage County. Founded in March of 1987, as the result of the Task Force on Child Sexual Abuse convened by the State’s Attorney James E. Ryan, the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center is committed to lessening the trauma of sexual and serious physical abuse for children as they turn to the justice system for protection. Since its inception, the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center has served as a nationally recognized model. In Illinois alone, there are now more than twenty such centers. “The mission of the Children’s Advocacy Center is to minimize the trauma experienced by the child-victim of sexual abuse or serious physical abuse and to provide support for any subsequent proceedings within the criminal justice system,” remarked State’s Attorney Joseph Birkett, who serves as the Chairman of the Center’s Advisory Board. “For the past twenty years the Children’s Advocacy Center has been committed to not only helping young victims cope with the abuse they endured, but also to ensuring that those who would victimize children are held accountable for their actions. I would like to thank the County Board for this recognition as well as all of the dedicated men and women of the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center for their devotion to the children of DuPage County.” ###
