WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that late yesterday afternoon, Judge Robert Anderson sentenced Paul T. Cieslowski, 34 (d.o.b. 3/11/73), of Aurora (formerly of Downers Grove) to thirty eight years (38) in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the October 21, 2000, sexual assault of a five month-old girl. On August 17, 2006 Cieslowski pled guilty to the assault, which took place in his Downers Grove apartment. The charges and resulting sentence stem from allegations that Cieslowski was sending inappropriate images of himself over the Internet. The alleged abuse came to the attention of the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center and the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office during the course of an investigation being conducted by the U.S. Postal Inspector and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office which was begun in October of 2000. These agencies were looking into a subject who was allegedly sending inappropriate images of himself over the Internet. In late December, 2000, that subject was identified as Paul Cieslowski, and in early February of 2001, federal authorities charged him with pornography and confiscated his computer. Images taken from this computer led investigators to a former residence of Cieslowski in Downers Grove. At this point, investigators from the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center became active in the investigation. On May 16, 2001, Cieslowski was charged with Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault, and creating child pornography. “Any type of sexual abuse in itself is upsetting, but when the victim is a five month-old baby it is exceptionally disturbing,” commented State’s Attorney Birkett. “I am very pleased that Judge Anderson recognized what a serious threat Mr. Cieslowski poses to society. With his sentence Judge Anderson has removed that threat.” Birkett went on to praise all the law enforcement agencies involved in the apprehension of Mr. Cieslowski. “I would like to thank the investigators from all of the agencies involved for their outstanding efforts in this case. This case is a perfect example of government agencies working together.” ###
