FORMER ATTORNEY GENERAL JIM RYAN HONORED AT DU PAGE COUNTY CHILDREN’S CENTER BREAKFAST WHEATON – This week the DuPage County Children’s Center celebrates its twenty-year anniversary kicking off with a benefactors’ breakfast, which was held this morning at the Arrowhead Golf Club in Wheaton, and concluding with the Center’s 16th annual family brunch at the Hyatt Lodge, McDonald’s campus, Oak Brook, on Sunday April 29 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. At this morning’s breakfast, DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett presented former DuPage County State’s Attorney/Attorney General Jim Ryan with a “Champion of Children” award for his tireless efforts on behalf of children not only in DuPage County but throughout Illinois. Founded in March of 1987 by former State’s Attorney Jim Ryan, the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center is committed to lessening the trauma of sexual and serious physical abuse for children as they turn to the justice system for protection. “When it comes to the protection of children, Jim Ryan is a true visionary,” remarked Birkett. “Twenty years ago, under the leadership of Jim Ryan, the DuPage County Children’s Center opened its doors to the children of DuPage County. One of the first such centers in the nation and the first in Illinois, the Center has helped thousands of abused children as they navigate through the justice system. I am extremely proud to be affiliated with the Center and on behalf of myself and the countless numbers of children the Center has helped, I would like to thank Jim for having the vision, determination and leadership for opening those doors twenty years ago.” At this time, the Center operates with funds from state and local grants, as well as with the proceeds raised at charity events such as this breakfast, which is geared toward major corporations in DuPage County, local elected officials and municipal leaders. The breakfast complements the Center’s Annual Spring Brunch, which is scheduled for Sunday, April 29 from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. All proceeds of the breakfast will go directly to the Friend’s of the DuPage County Children’s Center, a 501 C-3 non-for-profit organization to assist with non-law enforcement functions of the Center. For more information on the Annual Spring Brunch, please contact the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office at (630) 407-8000. ###
