CHILD SEX OFFENDER SENTENCED TO 37 YEARS IN IDOC
WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph Birkett today announced that Judge Robert Anderson has sentenced Carlos A. Cruz, 37, (d.o.b. 7/26/69) of 505 Macie Street, Apartment 7, Addison, to 37 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for sexually assaulting several young boys between the ages of eight and twelve years old during a five-month period in 2004. Cruz is an illegal alien and will be deported upon his release from IDOC. On January 30, 2007, Cruz pled guilty to one count Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault and five counts of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse.
The charges and sentencing stem from allegations that Cruz would befriend the boys and then bring them to his apartment and sexually assault them. An investigation into the matter began when a concerned family member of one of the victims contacted the Addison Police Department, who then contacted the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center.
“Because most children who are abused initially show little or no signs of abuse, parents and other caregivers may not be aware that their child is a victim of abuse,” commented Birkett. “I am very pleased that we were able to get this sexual predator off the streets before he could victimize other young boys. I would like to thank the Addison Police Department, the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center, First Assistant State’s Attorney Nancy Wolfe and Assistant State’s Attorney Dave Imielski for their fine work in this disturbing case. I would also like to thank the young victims for having the courage to come forward and help us put this sexual predator behind bars where he belongs.”
