States Attorney
Former Glenbard North High School Student
Charged With Disorderly Conduct
WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that charges have been filed against an 18 year-old former student of Glenbard North High School for allegedly making a bomb threat against the school at approximately 7 a.m. this morning.
Brandon M. Wyer, (d.o.b. 9/21/1988) of 981 Dearborn Circle, Carol Stream was charged with one count of Disorderly Conduct, a Class 4 felony punishable by up to three years in the Illinois Department of Corrections. The offense is probationable, however.
The charges stem from allegations that at 6:49 this morning, Wyer called police claiming that there was a bomb in Glenbard North High School that would detonate in thirty minutes. The defendant was apprehended a short time later by Glendale Heights police.
“Students should not have to fear for their safety while at school,” commented Birkett. “Teachers cannot teach and students cannot learn if they are instead worried about their own safety. Any threat of violence is taken very seriously. I would like to thank the Glendale Heights Police Department, particularly Officer Rhonda Kirstein, for their alert police work in apprehending Mr. Wyer. I would also like to thank officials at Glenbard North High School for their assistance in this matter.”
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
