STATE’S ATTORNEY BIRKETT’S REMARKS REGARDING JANE RADOSTITS’ FATAL ACCIDENT WHEATON – One week ago Jane Radostits was killed in a horrible car crash. Jane was a wonderful person; a great mother and wife, as well as a very dedicated and talented prosecutor. Today we learned from Coroner Pete Siekmann that at the time of the crash, Jane’s blood alcohol level was 252 mg/dl, or .25. Jane made a terrible mistake by getting behind the wheel of a car in that condition. She paid the ultimate price. We are thankful that the other woman who was seriously injured in the crash survived. She continues to be in our thoughts and prayers and we wish her a speedy recovery. Jane Radostits led a life of protecting others and saving countless lives through her advocacy for children. Now in her death she can save more lives by using her own mistake and failure as a lesson to others. Don’t drink and drive. Jane and her wonderful family continue to be in our thoughts and prayers. Jane’s decisions, which cost her life, in no way diminishes the great life she led and the fitting tribute paid to her. The DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office will move forward and will continue to do all in our power, through prosecution, public education and advocacy to prevent driving under the influence. ###
