FORMER SCHOOL EMPLOYEE GETS CONCURRENT 90- DAY SENTENCES FOR MISDEMEANOR SEX OFFENSE AND THEFT OF ELECTRONIC EQUIPMENT WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett today announced that David Grayson, 66 (d.o.b. 1/13/41), 1571 W. Ogden #2118, LaGrange Park, former Technology Director at Butler Junior High School in Oak Brook, was sentenced to 90-day sentences for Sexual Exploitation of a Child and Felony Theft of electronic equipment from the school. The sentences will be served concurrently in the DuPage County Jail. On March 6, 2007, Grayson entered a blind plea of guilty to each count in front of Judge Perry Thompson. Today’s sentencing is the result of allegations that in April 2005, Grayson had inappropriately touched himself in front of a former student. Two months later, in June 2005, after a routine inventory check of the Technology Department, authorities realized that more than $20,000 worth of equipment signed for as received by Grayson was missing. Upon their discovery, Butler Junior High School officials immediately reported the missing equipment to the Oak Brook Police Department. A thorough investigation conducted by Oak Brook Police confirmed Grayson had removed several pieces of electronics from the school without authorization and had given some of the equipment to acquaintances of his. “Today’s sentencing in no way diminishes the seriousness of Mr. Grayson’s crimes,” remarked Birkett. “He will still spend time behind bars for his offenses and will also be required to register as a sex offender. I would like to thank the Oak Brook Police Department as well as officials at Butler District 53 for their assistance and cooperation in this case. With their help we were able to hold Mr. Grayson accountable for his actions.” Grayson, who will begin serving his sentence on July 11, must also serve 2 years probation, register as a sex offender, submit to a sex offender evaluation and undergo any counseling deemed necessary. ###
