CAROL STREAM MAN SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS FOR AGGRAVATED CRIMINAL SEXUAL ABUSE WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that James Bieszke, 29 (d.o.b. 5/23/1978) of 211 E. St. Charles Road, Carol Stream, was sentenced late yesterday afternoon to 15 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for the sexual assault of his 13 year-old niece. On March 5, 2007, Bieszke entered a blind plea of guilty in front of Judge George Bakalis to one count of Criminal Aggravated Sexual Abuse, a Class 2 Felony and one count Criminal Sexual Assault, a Class 1 Felony. The charges against Bieszke and today’s sentence are the result of a 2004 investigation led by the Carol Stream Police Department with the assistance of the DuPage County Children’s Center. In August, 2004, Bieszke’s then 13 year-old niece contacted a relative and told her that Bieszke had inappropriately touched her while he babysat her. The relative then contacted the Carol Stream Police Department who launched an investigation into the matter. “Today sexual predator James Bieszke was sentenced to spend the next 15 years of his life behind bars, unable to prey upon innocent, young girls again,” commented Birkett. “Instead of caring for his own niece, Mr. Bieszke physically and psychologically abused her, to satisfy his own desires. He betrayed her trust and the trust of his own family. I would like to thank this courageous young girl for coming forward to help put this extremely dangerous man away for a very long time.” Birkett went on to praise the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office and the DuPage County Children’s Center for their assistance in this very disturbing case. “I would like to thank the Carol Stream Police Department, particularly Officer Larson and Detective Miller for their fine police work in helping us build our case,” remarked Birkett. “I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Liam Brennan and Cathy DeLaMar and the staff at the Children’s Center for the professionalism and concern they displayed throughout their handling of this extremely disturbing case.” ###
