CAROL STREAM MAN GETS 30 MONTHS FOR POSESSION OF CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that Jacob Goodnow, 30 (d.o.b. 11/2/1976) of 169 Fairfield Lane, Carol Stream, was sentenced today to 30 months in the Illinois Department of Corrections for possession of child pornography. On April 30, 2007, Goodnow entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of Possession of Child Pornography, a Class 3 Felony, punishable by up to five years in prison, in front of Judge Kathryn Creswell.
In October 2005, the Carol Stream Police Department received a tip indicating that Mr. Goodnow may be in possession of child pornography. An ensuing investigation led by the Carol Stream Police Department with the assistance of the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the High Tech Crimes Bureau of the Attorney General’s Office revealed that from April 2003, through October 2005, Goodnow has downloaded more than 800 child pornography images off the Internet.
“Judge Creswell hit the nail on the head, child pornography is not a victimless crime,” commented Birkett. “Every time Mr. Goodnow downloaded one of these images from the Internet, he claimed another young, innocent victim. I would like to thank the Carol Stream Police Department, particularly Detective Matthew Harrison as well as Assistant Attorney General Elizabeth Lepic and Assistant State’s Attorney Ken Tatarelis for their work in putting this child pornographer behind bars.”
In addition to the prison sentence, Judge Creswell also ordered that Goodnow pay a $1,000 fine, register as a sex offender and submit a DNA sample for entry into the state’s sex offender DNA database.
Goodnow was immediately taken into custody to begin serving his sentence.
