Former  GlenbardNorthHigh SchoolStudent Sentenced to 180 Days for Bomb Threat

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that Judge Robert Anderson has sentenced an 18 year-old former student of Glenbard North High School to 180 days periodic imprisonment for a May 15, 2007 bomb threat against the school.

On July 2, 2007, Brandon M. Wyer, (d.o.b. 9/21/1988) of 981 Dearborn Circle, Carol Stream, entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of Disorderly Conduct, a Class 4 felony.  In addition to the jail sentence, Wyer was also ordered to serve 30 months probation, pay restitution, submit to DNA indexing and undergo counseling as deemed necessary by the Department of Probation.

Today’s sentencing stems from allegations that at 6:49 a.m on May 15, Wyer called police claiming that there was a bomb in Glenbard North High School that would detonate in thirty minutes.  Shortly after calling in the threat, Wyer was apprehended without incident by Glendale Heights police.

“This case is yet another example of how seriously we take threats to our schools,” commented Birkett.  “Teachers and students should not have to fear for their safety while at school.  We must do everything we can to ensure that our schools remain safe so that teachers can teach and students can learn.  I would like to thank the Glendale Heights Police Department for their alert police work in apprehending Mr. Wyer as well as officials at Glenbard North High School for their assistance in this matter.”
