LOMBARD MAN CHARGED WITH ARMED ROBBERY
WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Robert Belle, 28, (d.o.b. 04/21/1979) of Lombard has been charged with one count of Armed Robbery and one count of Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
The charges stem from allegations that at approximately 7:31 p.m. last night, Belle, armed with a handgun, entered a gas station located on the corner of Glen Ellyn Road and Armitage in Glendale Heights. It is alleged that Belle pulled the weapon and ordered the female cashier, who was alone at the time of the incident, to open the cash register. It is further alleged that Belle then took money from the register and fled the scene. The cashier immediately contacted the Glendale Heights Police Department who apprehended Belle, without incident, minutes later.
“This alleged brazen behavior, threatening someone who is just trying to make a living, at gunpoint, will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” remarked Birkett. “I would like to thank the Glendale Heights Police Department for their extremely quick apprehension of this armed and dangerous man. I would also like to thank the victim for her assistance in helping us solve this case.”
Belle appeared in Bond Court this morning where Judge Brian Diamond set his bond at $750,000 with 10% to apply. His next court appearance is scheduled for September 24 at 9 a.m. in front of Judge Mark Dwyer
Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
