WEST CHICAGOMAN GUILTY OF HOME INVASION
Believed home was that of estranged girlfriend
WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Alejandro De La Salle, 30 (d.o.b. 7/26/1977), of 317 E. Blair Street, West Chicago, was found guilty of, among other charges, twelve counts of Home Invasion stemming from an early morning home invasion at a West Chicago residence. Today’s guilty finding was handed down by Judge Michael Burke.
Today’s finding stems from allegations that at approximately 2:15 a.m. October 9, 2006, De La Salle, armed with a two-foot long cord, a roll of tape and a pair of scissors, entered what he believed to be the residence of a former girlfriend. Once inside De La Salle entered the bedroom of an eleven year-old girl he believed was his former girlfriend and attempted to tape her mouth shut. When the girl screamed, De La Salle realized that he was not in his former girlfriend’s house and fled the scene. West Chicago Police arrived at the residence shortly thereafter and within minutes, located De La Salle. The Warrenville Police Department’s K-9 Unit assisted in the investigation.
“Just more than one year ago, an innocent little girl was attacked while she was asleep in her bed in the middle of the night,” remarked Birkett. “Her instinct to scream for help forced her attacker to flee before he could do any further harm. That instinct, coupled with the swift action of the West Chicago and Warrenville Police Departments, helped get this dangerous man off the streets where he will be unable to prey upon anyone else in the middle of the night.”
In all, De La Salle was found guilty of twelve counts of Home Invasion, one count of Residential Burglary, two counts of Unlawful Restraint, two counts of Aggravated Unlawful Restraint and three counts of Criminal Trespassing to a Residence. His next court date is scheduled for November 14, 2007 for a pre-sentencing hearing.
