ASSISTANT STATE’S ATTORNEY HELEN KAPAS-ERDMAN HONORED IN FIGHT AGAINST IMPAIRED DRIVERS
WHEATON - Assistant State’s Attorney Helen Kapas-Erdman was honored yesterday, by the Alliance Against Intoxicated Motorists (AAIM) as one of five Outstanding Assistant State’s Attorneys in Illinois in 2007. Nominated by an AAIM Victim’s Advocate, Helen was recognized for her “outstanding dedication to championing the cause of justice for impaired driving crash victims and their families.”
“I am extremely proud of Helen and the work she has done on behalf of the victims of intoxicated motorists,” remarked State’s Attorney Birkett. “She is tireless in her efforts to see that justice is done on behalf of these victims.”
Helen was presented the award on Sunday, October 28 at AAIM’s 17th Annual Fundraiser & Silent Auction held at the Eaglewood Resort in Itasca. This year was the first year the Outstanding Assistant State’s Attorney award was presented. The four other recipients of the award represent the Cook, McHenry and Will Counties State’s Attorney’s Offices.
AAIM is a citizen’s activist group founded in 1982 by victims of drunk driving. Prevention, victim advocacy, and legislation encompass the mission of AAIM. AAIM advocates attend court with victims of drunk driving to insure their rights are protected and to guide them through the system. In this role, they interact with Assistant State's Attorneys from courthouses throughout Northern Illinois.
