LAST OF CHURCH BURGLARY TRIO SENTENCED TO SIX MONTHS

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Mirnes Logo, 18 (d.o.b. 3/30/89), 1407 Roosevelt Road, Wheaton, was sentenced to 180 days of periodic imprisonment in the DuPage County Jail for his role in the burglary of a Wheaton Church.  On Monday, March 3, Logo, pled guilty to Burglary to a Place of Worship in front of Judge Perry Thompson, who handed down the sentence.  Logo is the last of three men involved in the burglary to be sentenced.  On March 16, 2007, Alen Kalember, 21, (d.o.b. 2/12/1987), 330 President Street, Carol Stream was sentenced to five years in the Illinois Department of Corrections and on December 7, 2007, Nedim Sivcevic, 26 (d.o.b. 12/19/1981), 203 Gazebo, Lombard, was sentenced to 30 days in the DuPage County Jail.

The trio’s sentences are the results of allegations that on October 19, 2006, Logo, Kalember and Sivcevic entered the Aldersgate Methodist Church in Wheaton.  Once inside the church, the men rummaged through church property and stole a variety of electronic equipment.  The trio fled the church only upon being discovered by a janitor.

In his closing remarks, Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Perkins requested a sentence of ten years in light of the defendant’s actions and his past criminal history presenting uncontested evidence that Logo also burglarized four other churches.

“Churches and other places of worship must be protected from the likes of these three men,” commented Birkett.  “I would like to thank the Wheaton Police Department and Assistant State’s Attorney Brian Perkins for their efforts in holding Mr. Logo, Mr. Kalember and Mr. Sivcevic responsible for their actions.”

In addition to his jail sentence, Logo was also sentenced to four years probation.
