MAYWOOD MAN GETS 24 YEARS FOR CONVENIENCE STORE STICK UP

WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Philip Macklin, 28 (d.o.b. 1/1/1980) of 8th Avenue, Maywood, was sentenced today to 24 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for his role in a 2006 robbery of an Addison convenience store.  On December 17, 2007, Macklin was found guilty of one count of Armed Robbery with a Firearm, a Class X Felony after a bench trial in front of Judge Mark Dwyer.

Today’s sentence stems from allegations that on August 28, 2006, Macklin armed two men, Freddie Evans of Maywood and William Chenault of Forest Park and then drove them to the Addison White Hen where he ordered them to commit the robbery.  Macklin dropped Evans and Chenault off at the store and was to pick them up shortly afterward.  Evans and Chenault however, were apprehended immediately after the robbery and implicated Macklin.  Macklin was arrested approximately two weeks later on September 13 and charged.  He has remained in custody since his arrest.  Evans received a six year prison sentence while Chenault received a fifteen year prison sentence for their involvement.

“Philip Mackin’s role in this crime must not go unpunished,” commented Birkett.  “Even though he did not point the gun, he is responsible.  He had others point the gun for him.  For giving the orders to commit this crime, Mr. Macklin will now spend a significant amount of time behind bars where he will be taking orders instead of giving them.”  Birkett went on to thank those whose efforts resulted in the three men’s capture and ultimate sentencing.  “I would like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Steve Knight and Mary Cronin for their prosecution of these three men as well as the Addison Police Department for their quick apprehension of the gunmen and follow-up work that led to Mr. Macklin.”

Macklin will be required to serve 50% or 12 years of his sentence before the possibility of parole.
