Former Marquette Manor Employee Sentenced to Four Years in IDOC on Sexual Assault Charges
WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced today that a former employee at Marquette Manor Baptist Church in Downers Grove has been sentenced to four years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after entering a plea of guilty to one count of Criminal Sexual Assault. On February 20, 2008, Greene entered his plea in front of Judge Perry Thompson.
The agreed sentence against former Youth Pastor Edward E. Greene, 37 (d.o.b. 7/12/1970) who currently resides in North Carolina, stems from allegations that from April to June, 1998, Greene engaged in sexual activity with an underage female parishioner and student at the church. Criminal Sexual Assault is a Class 1 Felony which carries a penalty of between four and fifteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.
“Mr. Greene took advantage of his position of trust and authority in the worst possible way,” remarked Birkett. “He took advantage of a young girl who looked up to him just to satisfy his own sexual desires. He betrayed her trust and he betrayed the trust placed in him by the Marquette Manor Baptist Church. I would like to thank the Downers Grove Police Department, particularly Detective Dave Franklin and Assistant State’s Attorney Alex McGimpsey for their commitment to this case and its young victim. Through their efforts, Mr. Greene will spend the next few years of his life behind bars. When he exits prison, he will be appropriately branded a convicted and registered sex offender.”
