DuPage County Children’s Center to Walk for Kids

WHEATON On May 16, the DuPage County Children’s Center will take part in the “Champions for Children Walk 2008” - a four-day, statewide walk from Springfield to Chicago intended to increase public awareness about child abuse issues in Illinois.  The walk will begin at the State Capitol in Springfield and conclude at the Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center on May 19th.

Through pledges and sponsorships, the walk will raise money for the DuPage County Children’s Center which last year alone helped nearly 400 children.  The DuPage County Children’s Center is the first of the State’s 38 Children’s Advocacy Centers that serve 85 of Illinois’ 102 counties. As a whole, Illinois Children’s Advocacy Centers coordinated interviews and advocated for more than 14,800 children last year.

“For more than twenty years, the DuPage County Children’s Center has recognized the special needs of child victims of sexual or serious physical abuse,” commented Birkett.  “I am very proud of the work that we do and I would like to encourage any one who is interested in supporting this vital service to join us as we walk for the children of DuPage County.”

For further information on the walk or to pledge your financial support, please contact the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center at (630) 407-2750.
