ANNUAL BRUNCH RAISES NEARLY $13,000 FOR ABUSED CHILDREN

WHEATON – The Friends of the DuPage County Children’s Center is pleased to announce that the 17th annual family brunch, “Spring Into Action”, was a success generating nearly $13,000 for the DuPage County Children’s Center.

This year’s brunch was held last Sunday, April 27, at Drury Lane Oak Brook and featured family friendly entertainment such as a DJ, face painter and several very talented thirteen year-old musicians and dancers.  In addition, a silent auction was held featuring products and services from local businesses.  One of the more popular items in the auction was a pair of tickets to a taping of the Oprah Winfrey Show which went for $500.

“Every year I look forward to the Children’s Center Brunch,” commented State’s Attorney Joe Birkett.  “It is a great event that directly benefits children who are victims of sexual or serious physical abuse.  As we begin our third decade of helping these young victims I look forward to building on the success we have already had.  I would like to thank the Friends of the DuPage County Children’s Center for their support over the years and I anticipate many more years working with them to help these young victims.”

The DuPage County Children’s Center investigates and processes all cases of child sexual and severe physical abuse in the County and works with children who witness violent crimes.  The Center receives government funding for its basic operations including staff and building maintenance.  However, there is little money for programs to support child victims and their affected family members.  The annual Spring Brunch is the Center’s primary fund-raiser each year with proceeds going to meet the needs of abused children and their affected family members.
