WOMAN SENTENCED TO FIVE YEARS FOR HAVING SEX WITH A FORMER STUDENT

DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that 41 year old Anastasia Pappas of Lombard, Illinois was sentenced to 5 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections as a result of a negotiated plea of guilty to engaging in sex with a 15 year old boy whom she had first met when he was her student in fifth grade at Blackhawk School in Glendale Heights, Illinois.  The investigation was conducted by the DuPage County Children’s Advocacy Center.  The sexual relationship began after the defendant moved into the victim’s family home.  She lived in the basement of the family residence.  The defendant hid the improper relationship from the victim’s parents and once the defendant’s immoral behavior was discovered it was immediately reported.

Today’s plea requires that the defendant serve 85% of the 5 year sentence.  Prior to her release from the penitentiary the defendant will be evaluated to determine whether or not she continues to pose a risk to children.  As a result of this conviction the defendant will not only be a convicted felon, but also a registered sex offender and will never teach again.

State’s Attorney Birkett praised the victim for his courage, as well as his wonderful family for supporting their loved one throughout this entire investigation and prosecution.  “It is thanks to all of them that this offender has been held to account for her behavior and society can now be protected from her,” said State’s Attorney Birkett.  State’s Attorney Birkett also praised the outstanding efforts of the Children’s Center staff and the fine work of Assistant State’s Attorney Tom O’Connor.
