MAN GETS 27 YEARS IDOC FOR ATTACKING CABBIES

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that David Garcia, 25, (d.o.b. 12/5/1982) formerly of Elgin has been sentenced to 27 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after entering a plea of guilty to one count of Attempted First Degree Murder, a Class X Felony and one Count Armed Robbery, also a Class X Felony.

Today’s sentence, which was in front of Judge Kathryn Creswell, stems from allegations that in the late evening of June 23, 2006, Garcia called for a cab on two separate occasions.  When the first cab arrived however, Garcia robbed the cab driver at knifepoint.  Approximately two hours later, Garcia phoned for another cab.  When the second cab arrived, Garcia attempted to rob the driver but when the driver refused to give Garcia any money, Garcia stabbed the cab driver about his head neck and body. The cab driver fully recovered from his injuries.  Villa Park Police Officers located Garcia shortly after the second attack.

“These brazen attacks on two individuals just trying to make a living will cost Mr. Garcia the next 27 years of his life,” commented Birkett.  “I would like to thank the Villa Park Police Department for their extremely quick apprehension of this armed and dangerous man as well as Assistant State’s Attorney Anne Celine O’Hallaren for her work on this case.”
