BROTHERS CHARGED WITH STEALING NEARLY$1 MILLION FROM BENSENVILLE COMPANY

WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that the former General Manager of a Bensenville business and his brother have been indicted on charges they allegedly stole approximately $1 million from the company over a two year period.

As General Manager of A Better Crawlspace located in Bensenville, 37 year-old Louie Filskov (d.o.b. 11/10/1971) of 1061 S. Norbury Avenue, Lombard was responsible for accepting checks written to the company as well as distributing checks written from the company to other parties.  According to the indictment however, Filskov allegedly cashed many of these checks at a currency exchange and kept the money for himself.  The indictment against Louie Filskov alleges that the total amount of money he embezzled from these actions to be more than $500,000.  A separate indictment against 47 year-old Nick Filskov (d.o.b. 10/29/1961) of 267 Ironwood Drive, Bloomingdale, alleges that he cashed checks at the currency exchange as well.  This indictment estimates the amount of money stolen by Nick Filskov to be between $10,000 and $100,000.

“White collar criminals are usually quite knowledgeable about their victim’s financial operations,” commented Birkett.  “And because of this, their crimes can be very difficult to uncover.  I would like to thank the Bensenville Police Department, particularly Detective Brian Dooley for their work in unraveling the Filskov brothers’ scheme.  I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney William Wu for his work on this case.  The actions of these defendants, if proven true, caused a significant hardship to A Better Crawlspace and its employees and must not go unpunished.”

The brothers each face charges of Theft, Theft by Deception and Money Laundering.  In addition, Louie Filskov faces charges of Identity Theft.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt.  A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
