FIRST DEGREE MURDER CHARGES FILED IN MURDER OF BLOOMINGDALE MAN

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that First Degree Murder charges have been filed against 23 year-old Timothy Bailey-Woodson (d.o.b. 9/28/1985) of Chicago, in connection with the death of 53 year-old David G. Coungeris of Bloomingdale.  Coungeris was found deceased last night at his place of business where he also lived, High Tech Auto & Truck Repair located at 250 S. Gary Avenue in Bloomingdale.

It is alleged that in the early morning hours of Thursday, March 5, Bailey-Woodson and Coungeris were together at the business.   It is further alleged that a dispute between the two men caused Bailey-Woodson to repeatedly beat Mr. Coungeris about the head with a heavy mechanical implement.  An investigation into the matter led officers from the Bloomingdale Police Department and members of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force to Bailey-Woodson, who was taken into custody early Friday morning without incident.

“I would like to thank the Bloomingdale and Chicago Police Departments as well as members of the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force who worked tirelessly throughout the day and night to solve this brutal crime,” commented Birkett   “I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorneys Anne Therieau and Brooks Locke for their extended efforts.  It is because of the outstanding police work and dedication of all these men and women we are able to bring a strong prosecution in the murder of David Coungeris.”

“The Bloomingdale Police Department worked in conjunction with the DuPage County Major Crimes Task Force, the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and members of the Chicago Police Department’s 14th district and Tactical Unit to bring this case to a successful conclusion,” commented Bloomingdale Chief of Police Timothy M. Goergen.  “The cooperation of the law enforcement entities involved demonstrates the high level of commitment to the communities served.”

First Degree Murder carries a minimum sentence of 20-60 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC).

Bailey-Woodson is currently in the custody of the Bloomingdale Police Department.   He will be transferred to the DuPage County jail and will appear in bond in the near future.

Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt.   A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
