Illinois Supreme Court Affirms Michael Cardamone’s Conviction in Witness Harassment Case

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joseph E. Birkett announced that the Illinois Supreme Court today affirmed the conviction against former gymnastics coach thirty two year-old Michael P. Cardamone (d.o.b. 2/03/1977) in relation to his January 2006 witness harassment case.  In February of last year, the Second District Appellate Court of Illinois also denied Cardamone’s motion for a new trial

“I am very pleased with the judgment handed down by the Illinois Supreme Court,” remarked Birkett.  “This is a major victory for witnesses and crime victims alike.  Today the Illinois Supreme Court made it crystal clear - any attempt to contact, intimidate or harass a witness involved in ongoing litigation will not be tolerated and will carry significant consequences.”

Justice Garman delivered the opinion with Chief Justice Fitzgerald and Justices Freeman, Thomas, Kilbride, Karmeier and Burke concurring.
