States Attorney BROADVIEW MAN GETS 20 YEARS IN HOME INVASIONWHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that 24 year-old Decartys Montgomery (d.o.b. 7/08/1984) of Broadview was sentenced to twenty years in the Illinois Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to one count of Home Invasion, a Class X Felony. As part of the agreed plea, Montgomery will be required to serve 85% of his sentence, which was handed down by Judge Kathryn Creswell this afternoon. Just after midnight on August 16 2007, Montgomery entered the Lombard home of his 79 year-old female victim through an open window. Once inside, Montgomery ordered his victim to give him money. The woman complied and gave Montgomery approximately $300. Montgomery then ordered his victim to lie down on the bed. When she refused, Montgomery left the bedroom. The victim shut the bedroom door behind Montgomery and then jumped out the bedroom window, fled to a neighbor's house and called 911. An investigation by Lombard detectives with the assistance of the Villa Park Police Department led to Montgomery's apprehension. "I would like to thank the Lombard and Villa Park Police Departments for their fine police work in apprehending Mr. Montgomery," commented Birkett. "I would also like to thank Assistant State's Attorney Ann Celine O'Hallaren for her work on this case. Because of their efforts we were able to get a dangerous man off the streets and behind bars where he belongs." ### Return to List of Press Releases Please e-mail comments or questions to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office at stsattn@dupageco.org |
