States Attorney VILLA PARK MAN CHARGED WITH FORGERY Allegedly Solicited Funds on Behalf of Veteran’s Charity It is alleged that between April 7 and April 19 of this year, on at least two occasions, McCarver went door to door in several Wheaton Neighborhoods posing as a representative of the Department of Veterans’ affairs. It is further alleged that McCarver would request charitable contributions on behalf of the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and that he would then alter these checks and cash them for personal use. “What I find particularly offensive about this case is that the defendant allegedly took donations that were intended to help veterans and their families and kept them for his own personal use,” commented Birkett. “That someone would use our brave men and women in uniform who risked their lives for us to steal is disgraceful.” McCarver appeared in Bond court this morning where bond was set at $75,000 with 10% to apply. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 6 in front of Judge George Bakalis. Members of the public are reminded that this complaint contains only charges and is not proof of the defendant’s guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove his or her guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. ###
