INDICTMENT ALLEGES THEFT, FORGERY AGAINST WOODRIDGE WOMAN
Woman Allegedly Stole More Than $550,000 During a Five-Year Period
WHEATON – DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that 41 year-old Mary Marra, (d.o.b. 12/5/1967) of 3014 63rd Street, Woodridge, has been charged with stealing more than $550,000 from her former employer.
It is alleged in the indictment that while employed as a secretary at a Downers Grove law firm, Marra deposited into her personal bank account unauthorized checks payable to herself written from bank accounts controlled by the law firm. According to the indictment, Marra began her scheme in December, 2002 and continued through February, 2008. It is further alleged that Marra also wrote herself checks from the estate of one of the law firm’s clients as well as forged her employer’s signature on several of the checks. In all, Marra is facing; three counts of Theft in excess of $100,000, a Class 1 Felony; eleven counts of Forgery, a Class 3 Felony and two counts of Continuing Financial Crimes Enterprise, a Class 1 Felony. She faces up to fifteen years in the Illinois Department of Corrections if convicted.
Marra is scheduled for arraignment on May 19 in front of Judge Peter Dockery. She is not currently in custody after posting the required 10% of her $100,000 bond.
