BIRKETT’S OFFICE HOSTS ETHICS SEMINAR

WHEATONDuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett’s Office today hosted approximately one hundred elected and appointed officials as well as members of their staff at an ethics training seminar entitled “Conducting Public Business – Ethical Obligations and Deterring Corruption.”

The Conference, which was held at the DuPage County Government Complex in Wheaton, featured speakers from Birkett’s Office, the Illinois Attorney General’s Office as well as Patrick Collins, former Assistant U.S. Attorney, lead prosecutor in U.S. v. Ryan and Chairman of the Illinois Reform Commission.  Collins’ presentation was well received by the audience prompting one participant to comment “Great exposure to areas of the law we don’t see everyday.”

“Public officials and their employees need to be vigilant of their ethical obligations and that process begins with education,” remarked Birkett.  “That is why training seminars such as this are so important.  With the proper training, we can significantly reduce cases of official misconduct and begin the process of regaining the trust of the people we serve.”
