NAPERVILLE MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO SEXUAL ASSAULT

Sentencing scheduled for August 20

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that forty seven year-old Stephen Silvey (d.o.b. 10/03/1961) formerly of 103 S. Testa Avenue, Naperville, entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, one count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Abuse of a Child, one count of Intimidation and one count of Possession of Child Pornography in front of Judge Peter Dockery this afternoon.

Today’s plea is the result of allegations that between December, 1999 thru December, 2001 and between October, 2004 thru February 28, 2008, Silvey sexually assaulted the child of a Naperville family he had befriended.  On August 20, Judge Peter Dockery will sentence Silvey to the Illinois Department of Corrections.  He faces a maximum of seventy seven years behind bars.

“Today’s plea is the result of a young victim’s courage who disclosed the actions of a sexual predator who assaulted her repeatedly over a period of years,” commented Birkett.  “At the sentencing hearing we intend to seek the maximum sentence.”
