Naperville Woman Sentenced In Theft From School Association

WHEATONDuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that the former Treasurer of a Naperville Elementary School Association has been sentenced to 30 months probation and 25 days DuPage County Jail Periodic imprisonment for stealing approximately $8,500 from the Association during the 2007-2008 school year.   On May 27, 2009, Forty year-old Naperville resident Lisa S. Landin (d.o.b. 4/10/1969) entered a blind plea of guilty to one count of Theft, a Class 1 Felony in front of Judge Peter Dockery, who handed down today’s sentence.  In addition, Landin was ordered to pay $8,477 in restitution.

Landin served as Treasurer of the Scott Home and School Association in Naperville.  As Treasurer, Landin was responsible for depositing the proceeds from Association sponsored fundraisers and events.  During the 2007-08 school year however, altered deposit slips into the Association’s bank account and only deposited checks the Association received through its fundraising efforts and not cash.  Landin would then keep the cash and alter the Association’s general ledger to cover up the cash thefts.  An internal audit performed by the Association revealed the thefts.

“The Scott Home and School Association placed their trust and financial well being in Lisa Landin’s hands,” commented Birkett.  “She repaid that trust by stealing.  She treated the Scott Home and School Association as her own personal fundraiser.  I would like to thank Naperville Detective Tom Gibertini as well as Assistant State’s Attorneys Joe Ruggiero and Helen Kapas Erdman for their efforts in this case”
