MAN GETS 30 DAYS FOR FLYING WHILE ON DRUGS

WHEATON- DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that forty five year-old Sean Oskvarek (d.o.b. 9/24/1963) of 2033 Westbury Dr, Woodridge, was sentenced to thirty days of work release jail time and two years probation after pleading guilty to one count of Operating an Aircraft While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs. 

            On November 15, 2008 at approximately 11 p.m., Oskvarek was piloting a small plane near the Brookeridge air park near Downers Grove when the plane clipped a house and flew into some trees before coming to rest upside-down.  After crashing his plane, Oskvarek fled the scene.  An investigation into the crash revealed that Oskvarek had been drinking before he got into the plane and was in possession of more than 100 prescription pills while flying.  A short time later he was apprehended by police and charged with Operating an Aircraft While Under the Influence of Alcohol or Drugs.

            “What Mr. Oskvarek did, flying a plane while under the influence of any substance, is extremely dangerous,” commented Birkett.  “Mr. Oskvarek should consider himself a very lucky man.  Not only is he lucky to be alive, had he caused injury or death to any innocent people on the ground, he would be looking at a substantial amount of time behind bars.  Perhaps this is something Mr. Oskvarek should think about while he serves his time.”

            Oskvarek is scheduled to begin serving his sentence on August 27, 2009.  While serving his sentence, he will be allowed to leave jail to go to work during the day but must return to spend the night behind bars.
