MAYWOOD MAN FOUND GUILTY OF DRUG TRAFFICKING

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that Judge Peter Dockery has found 30 year-old Troy L. Campbell (d.o.b. 10/12/1978) of 2128 S. 7th Avenue, Maywood, guilty of one count of Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver and one count of Controlled Substance Trafficking.  Dockery delivered his verdict yesterday after a one day bench trial.

On April 18, 2009, at approximately 9:15 p.m., acting on a tip that a vehicle in which Campbell was a passenger may be involved in drug trafficking, Naperville Police pulled the vehicle over on I-290 near York Road after witnessing numerous traffic violations.  The traffic stop yielded a small amount of cannabis and approximately six hundred pills of ecstasy.  An investigation into the matter revealed that Campbell was on his way home from Detroit, Michigan where he purchased the drugs.

“Drug dealers such as Mr. Campbell are a scourge on society,” remarked Birkett.  “They care for nothing but themselves, making a living at the financial, physical and emotional expense of others.  I would like to thank the Naperville Police Department, particularly Detective Arsenault and Officer Heun as well as agents from the DEA for their superior police work in getting this drug peddler off the streets.  I would also like to thank Assistant State’s Attorney Diane Michalak for her efforts in ensuring that Mr. Campbell will remain behind bars for a long time unable to enrich his own life at the expense of others.”

A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for October 5, 2009 at which time Campbell faces a sentence of between 18 and 80 years in the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) of which he must serve 75%.  Both offenses are Super Class X Felonies.
