Press Releases

2010 | 2009 | 2008 | 2007 | 2006

WHEATON - DuPage County State’s Attorney Joe Birkett announced today that two men, 20 year-old James Kral, (d.o.b. 6/19/1989) of Glen Ellyn and eighteen year-old Alejandro Roman (d.o.b. 10/29/1991) of Chicago, have each been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder, Home Invasion and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm in connection with an October 23 home invasion in Glen Ellyn.

It is alleged that at approximately 1:54 a.m. on October 23, Kral and Roman and a third unidentified man entered the Glen Ellyn residence located on Busch Road.  All three men were allegedly armed with handguns and wore masks.  It is further alleged that once inside the residence, the men ordered two of the home’s occupants to sit against a couch and secured their arms and legs with duct tape.  It is further alleged that after a brief altercation with another occupant of the home, the three men fled the residence.  On their way out however, it is alleged that the one of the defendants shot the two occupants who had been previously bound.  The two shooting victims are both expected to survive their injuries.

Both men are currently being held in the DuPage County Jail on $1 million bond with 10% to apply.  Their cases have been assigned to Judge George Bakalis.

Detectives from the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office are attempting to locate the third offender.  Anyone with information regarding this matter is asked to call the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office at (630) 407-2400.

Members of the public are reminded that these complaints contain only charges and are not proof of the defendants’ guilt.  The defendants are presumed innocent and are entitled to a fair trial in which it is the government’s burden to prove their guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
