The primary focus of Occupational Therapy is to promote independence in activities of daily living such as dressing, grooming, bathing, tub/toilet transfers and home management. Independence is often reached by use of specialized adaptive devices.
Our department features a studio apartment where therapists can simulate a variety of living environments. Therapists are skilled in assessing the living environment and recommending adaptations that promote independence and safety.
Occupational therapists also specialize in selection or fabrication of splints, edema management, perceptual motor training, sensory integration, work simplification and energy conservation techniques. Hand therapy for as arthritis and carpal tunnel syndrome is also available.
