DuPage Honors Airport Authority Chairman Daniel Goodwin

DuPage County Chairman Dan Cronin and the County Board honored DuPage Airport Authority Chairman Daniel Goodwin during the board meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 12, for his 10 years of service to the agency.

Cronin said Goodwin, who resigned in January, was instrumental in transforming the once troubled agency into one of the most respected aviation airports in the country. A recent economic impact study concluded that the airport generates more than $117 million annually for the local economy and has created 1,000 jobs.

“Throughout the past 10 years, Dan Goodwin applied his successful business strategies to the Airport Authority by eliminating the agency’s debt, significantly reducing its reliance on property taxes and establishing the agency as an economic engine for the County. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding corporate citizen like Dan Goodwin in our community whose leadership, integrity and devotion has affected an immeasurable amount of people,” said Cronin.

Following his appointment to the DuPage Airport Authority Board in October of 2002, Goodwin was subsequently elected as chairman in January 2003. During his tenure, Goodwin implemented model procurement and financial policies, improved airport operations and reduced the overall tax burden on DuPage County homeowners. Through Goodwin’s efforts, he turned an operating loss into a profit for the agency by eliminating all debt, permanently reducing the agency’s annual property tax levy from $18 million to less than $6 million and rebating $1.5 million throughout the past two years.

In addition, Goodwin’s efforts to restore the credibility and financial condition of the DuPage Airport Authority, was praised in 2011 by U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood who called the facility a “model for the nation.”

Stephen Davis replaced Goodwin as chairman of the DuPage Airport Authority in January.
