Prairie Path Work Completed Ahead of Schedule
Runners, bikers and walkers on the Illinois Prairie Path in Elmhurst can now travel the path unimpeded. The construction project to upgrade the path at the Canadian National rail crossing near Pioneer Park at Vallette Street is finished a month ahead of schedule.
DuPage County Trails Task Force Chairman Sean Noonan said the path approaching the rail crossing now provides smoother curves and better sight lines at the crossing gates installed by the railroad in 2013. Workers also installed a path connection between the Illinois Prairie Path and the intersection of Prospect and Seminole Avenues.
“DuPage County is dedicated to a secure, accessible trail system. Any time we have citizens using our path near a rail crossing, we have to do everything we can to ensure their safety. The crossing and pavement improvements on the Prairie Path near Vallette Street provide important enhancements benefitting the hundreds of cyclists, dog walkers and runners who regularly use this trail,” said Noonan.
