Fichtner Chosen to Lead Ad Hoc Committee on Airport Noise

DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin announced formation of an Ad Hoc Committee on Airport Noise Mitigation. This Ad Hoc Committee will report to Chairman Cronin and the Transportation Committee, and will include the following members of the DuPage County Board:

• Paul Fichtner, Chairman
• Don Puchalski, District 1
• Sean Noonan, District 2
• Brian Krajewski, District 3
• Amy Grant, District 4
• Tony Michelassi, District 5
• Jim Zay, District 6

The purpose of this committee will be to provide insight and direction on the issue of increasing noise patterns created by air traffic at O’Hare International Airport. Cronin said, “The DuPage County Board has a history of working with our municipal partners, the City of Chicago and the FAA on issues related to expansion at O’Hare Airport. Noise and changing flight patterns impacting DuPage residents’ quality of life make it imperative that our County Board assume a leadership role again as we coordinate and seek remedies for these concerns.”

Committee Chairman Paul Fichtner said, “We plan to work with federal, state and local leaders to find solutions. While O’Hare serves as a powerful economic engine for our region, we want to balance its needs with the essential rights of DuPage residents and homeowners to live with as minimal a noise burden as possible.”

The ad-hoc committee will provide information and guidance to the Transportation Committee and County Board Chairman on various public proposals. Their analysis may entail the assistance of experts and other professionals to aid in their review. The group plans to meet later this month. The date and time will be announced as part of the regular County Board meeting notification system.
