DuPage County Announces Passing of Board Member McBride
It’s with deep sadness that Chairman Dan Cronin and members of the DuPage County Board announce the passing of Jerry “JR” McBride of Glen Ellyn. McBride represented DuPage’s District 4 since 2006.
During his time on the County Board, McBride served as chairman of the Emergency Telephone Service Board. He also served as chairman of the Judicial and Public Safety, Legislative, Public Transit and Technology Committees. He served as vice-chairman of the Judicial and Public Safety, Legislative and Public Works committees, and was a member of the Finance, Intergovernmental, Stormwater and Transportation committees.
“JR was the best kind of public servant. He was deeply committed to his community and family. JR was an advocate for common sense government reforms. He always considered the needs of citizens and taxpayers first when taking a vote or position on an issue. This is a personal loss to all of us because JR made everyone his friend. We will miss his wonderful, booming laugh and his ability to help us all find the humor in our lives,” said Cronin.
McBride was a graduate of Fenwick High School in Oak Park and Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He worked as an insurance broker with McBride Insurance Agency.
As an enthusiastic community volunteer, McBride raised thousands of dollars for area non-profit organizations such as Misericordia Heart of Mercy in Chicago. He was a founding member of the Jubilee Board which raised funds for Outreach Community Ministries in Wheaton. He was also actively involved in various organizations, such as the Metropolitan Family Services of DuPage, Rotary Club, DuPage Chapter of the American Cancer Society, and the Glenbard West High School Booster Club.
He was a dedicated husband to his wife, Becky, and devoted father of five children, Lauren, Molly, Abigail, Sara and Marty.
