Illinois State Water Survey Hosting Open House on FEMA Mapping Project in DuPage County July 29
The Illinois State Water Survey (ISWS), on behalf of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), will host an open house on Wednesday, July 29, from 4 to 7 p.m. to present the preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Map (FIRM) and Flood Insurance Study (FIS) for DuPage County. The open house will be held in the auditorium of DuPage County's JTK Administration Building, 421 County Farm Rd., Wheaton.
During the open house, ISWS staff will review FEMA's mapping project, present the preliminary FIS report and FIRM panels, discuss the process of reviewing and adopting the documents, and solicit public comment. This project involved an update to floodplain information in DuPage County's Salt Creek and Sawmill Creek Watersheds, as well as for select streams within the East Branch and West Branch DuPage River Watersheds.
Residents living in or near floodplain, realtors, insurance agents, developers, and representatives of lending institutions are encouraged to attend. In advance of the open house, FEMA has posted digital copies of the FIRM and FIS report materials at www.fema.gov/preliminaryfloodhazarddata.
The open house also marks the beginning of a 30-day public comment period. Written comments may be sent to Shelly Fuller, Illinois State Water Survey, 2204 Griffith Drive, Champaign, IL 61820-7463 or via email at email@example.com. All written comments must be received by Friday, August 28, 2015.
