DuPage Celebrates Workforce Development Week Through Success Stories
DuPage County celebrates Workforce Development Week by focusing on the successes of individuals and businesses who participated in programs provided by the DuPage County Workforce Development Division (WDD). Illinois Workforce Development Week is observed state-wide during the week of August 31, 2015.
The DuPage County Workforce Development Division, located at the workNet DuPage Career Center, is funded through the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and provides an extensive range of services to both job seekers and employers. Job seeker services include scholarships for job training programs, job search workshops, career counseling, and a job search resource center. Employer services include workforce training grants, a resume database, free job posting, and assistance for displaced workers.
DuPage County Board Chairman Dan Cronin said, "The Workforce Development Division is a vital piece of our economic development strategy in the County. This service provides a valuable connection between the people who are looking for work and the business owners who need to fill positions in their companies. Our success stories are proof that DuPage's approach is an example for the rest of the state."
Through the program, DuPage County resident Scott Redman earned IT certifications and participated in job-search workshops that led him to a full-time job with Common Sense Solutions in Lombard.
DuPage County's Workforce Development Division also helped Brionna Collier and Mikaela Wellington find jobs through the Make Your Way ("MYWay") program. Through this career exploration opportunity, they both secured internships that led them to full-time jobs. Brionna is now working at a dental office in Naperville and Mikaela is working at Embassy Suites in Lombard.
