DuPage County Board Member Jim Healy Receives National County Engineers Award
DuPage County Board Member Jim Healy received an award from the National Association of County Engineers (NACE) honoring his efforts to win passage of federal transportation legislation, now known as the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act.
Healy served as the chairman of the National Association of Counties’ (NACo) Transportation Committee from 2013 to 2015. He received the award Feb. 21, 2016, in Washington, D.C.
“It was gratifying to work with county engineers from all across the country to advocate for a stronger, more secure funding system for America’s roadways, “said Healy. “It was essential to bring the engineers together with County Board members as we worked to educate members of congressional committees and the administration about this important legislation.”
President Obama signed the FAST Act into law in December 2015. It is the first law in 10 years that provides long-term funding for surface transportation projects. FAST Act streamlines the distribution of its transportation funds, in many cases, delivering it directly to local entities doing the projects.
“Member Healy was on the forefront of the NACo-NACE collaboration, which resulted in counties coming out ahead in the 2015 FAST Act,” said Brian Roberts, executive director of NACE. “Jim recognizes the technical expertise provided by county engineers and highway officials, and leveraged that knowledge for the benefit of not only his citizens, but counties around the U.S. The Act gives local governments the long-term certainty needed to plan and deliver projects. It also provides more federal funding to bring these projects to fruition. All NACE members have Jim to thank for our successful partnership!”
Member Jim Healy represents DuPage County’s 5th District on the County Board, which includes parts of Naperville, Aurora and Lisle.
