DuPage County Approves Consolidation of Century Hill Street Lighting District
The DuPage County Board voted Tuesday to consolidate the Century Hill Street Lighting District into the County’s Division of Transportation (DuDOT). The County Board resolution will transfer all assets and service responsibilities from the district to DuDOT.
Century Hill representatives and County staff identified an opportunity for the County to provide street lighting services through existing County contracts to leverage efficiencies and help control annual service costs. This would also provide opportunities for infrastructure investments.
“As part of our DuPage ACT Initiative, this consolidation creates a more efficient and effective service model, and eliminates a unit of local government,” said County Board Chairman Dan Cronin. “I applaud the work of our Transportation Committee Chairman, Don Puchalski, and District 5 representative, Jim Healy, for their leadership on this consolidation. Further, I’d like to thank County Clerk Paul Hinds, Century Hill Street Lighting District trustees Tom Cieslak, Ed Seckinger and Ray Jeffreys for their willingness to work with our staff and make this consolidation a reality.”
The district adopted a resolution April 25 to formally dissolve itself and transfer all assets and service responsibilities to DuPage County. Century Hill district representatives sent several mailings and held town hall meetings with residents to discuss the consolidation and elicit feedback. More than 98 percent of Century Hill homeowners who completed the survey favored consolidation with the County. Sixty-one percent of all district homeowners completed the survey.
