Salt Creek Greenway Trail
The Salt Creek Greenway Trail is a 35-mile trail which starts in Busse
Woods (Cook County) on the north, passes through eastern DuPage and curves
southeast into Cook County at the south end. It is part of an intergovernmental
effort by the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and includes the County,
park districts, and municipalities. The trail passes through Salt Creek Marsh,
Cricket Creek, Salt Creek Greenway, York Woods, Fullersburg Woods, and various
forest preserves in Cook County before ending at the Brookfield Zoo. It connects
six eastern DuPage communities including Wood Dale, Addison, Villa Park,
Elmhurst, Oak Brook, and Oakbrook Terrace. The trail also connects to Wood Dale
and Hinsdale's bikeway system the Illinois
Prairie Path Main Stem, Brookfield, Lyons, and Riverside.
The Salt Creek
Trail is one component of the Salt Creek Greenway Master Plan. The plan was
prepared for the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County by the Northeastern
Illinois Planning Commission, DuPage County Department of Development and
Environmental Concerns, and Open Lands Project. A large component of the plan
was trail enhancement and increasing recreational activities along Salt

Within DuPage County, construction of the Salt Creek Greenway
from northern boundary of DuPage County to Ogden Avenue has been completed.
When an additional on-street bikeway segment in Hinsdale is completed, riders
will be able to travel from Busse Woods in Schaumburg to the Centennial Trail in
Lyons. In addition, the Cook County Forest Preserve has completed an east-west
segment of the Salt Creek Greenway that provides bicycle access to the
Brookfield Zoo. The Cook County Forest Preserve District project included

The Forest Preserve District completed The Salt Creek Greenway Master Plan
