Elgin O'Hare Western Access Project
The EOWA is a project of national, statewide and regional significance. Located west of O'Hare International Airport, this project includes a 120 square mile area. The area includes 2
counties (Cook and DuPage) and 23 communities (Addison, Arlington
Heights, Bensenville, Berkeley, Bloomingdale, Chicago, Des Plaines, Elk Grove Village, Elmhurst, Franklin Park, Hanover Park, Itasca, Medinah, Mt. Prospect, Northlake, Park Ridge, Rolling Meadows, Roselle, Rosemont, Schaumburg, Schiller Park, Villa
Park, Wood Dale). The project area is a major transportation hub for the region and the world and includes O'Hare Airport, major freight rail corridors, intermodal facilities, transit services and interstate highways. The area contains the second
largest employment base in the Chicago metropolitan area with more than 500,000 jobs.
With the extension of the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway, the creation of a Western Bypass along the west side of O'Hare Airport that connects I-90, I-294 and the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway, and space to accommodate mass transit, the EOWB will sustain the area's
global competitiveness, promote business retention and attraction and create new jobs.
