Cool DuPage for Small Business
DuPage County invites residents, businesses and government agencies to join the Cool DuPage effort to reduce energy consumption. By working together, we can help DuPage County reduce greenhouse gases through big and small changes.
Tips for an Energy Efficient Small Business
- Switching from incandescent to compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) is easy and affordable. CFLs use 75% less energy, saving up to $200 for every five bulbs replaced, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Use energy efficient equipment whenever possible. Improve efficiency of heating and cooling systems. Install a programmable thermostat to regulate temperature and to turn heat down or air-conditioners up at night. Have the air-conditioner checked for any leaks, faulty filters, coils, compressor fans and drains regularly.
- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - look for ways to reduce unnecessary consumption, reuse and recycle materials. Double sided printing is a great way to reduce paper waste. Encourage recycling by setting up recycle bins for recyclable materials. Reuse file folders or other office materials whenever possible.
