FLSA STATUS: Non - Exempt
Under general supervision; performs work of moderate difficulty related to the coordination, operation and maintenance of the County’s payroll function; performs related work as required.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
Employees in this class generally coordinates and administers the County’s payroll process, including the monitoring of the payroll computer system; preparing and ordering a variety of jobs; verifying and maintaining the payroll personnel and is performed under general supervision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Coordinates and completes the payroll process for the County
• Monitors bookkeeping and payroll policies
• Reviews and verifies output of work
• Prepares and executes system required reports, for example, teachers & judges wages report, treasurer reports, and IMRF monthly reports
• Resolves basic payroll discrepancies
• Creates employees’ personnel/payroll data and tax records within the system
• Implements union contract policies and pay for payroll purposes into the payroll system
• Records and balances payroll withholding taxes
• Verifies and maintains information concerning accruals for example, vacation carryover, holidays, sick and compensatory time
• Updates new and revised policies changes into the personnel/payroll system to provide accurate output of information
• Responds to inquiries and requests from County employee’s regarding the payroll process
• Maintains County employee and elected official salaries, teacher’s and judge’s retirement
• Updates management staff of payroll related personnel and operational issues
• Trains and instructs employees in proper payroll procedures
• Maintains and updates annual tax forms related to payroll
• Provides back up for all other payroll staff members
• Manages employment verification inquiries
• Maintains regular attendance and punctuality
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Adjusts work assignments and schedules in the event of an emergency to participate in emergency preparedness, response, and recovery activities as assigned.
• Depending on assignment may maintain required emergency management training, licensure and/or certifications.
• Performs related duties as required or assigned within job classification.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Completion of an Associate's degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field and two (2) years of experience in payroll; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
