Hours: Full-Time: Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m., some evenings, weekends and holidays as required
Salary: $47,000-$55,000 annually
There is one (1) position open at this time. This position will primarily work with canine foster, rescue and volunteer programs.
• Maintains strong relationships with staff, volunteers, rescues and fosters to identify & overcome barriers to lifesaving, streamline communications, improve outcomes & shorten animal lengths of stay
• Serves as the County’s liaison and proactively nurtures relationships within the animal welfare community to facilitate the process of intake, foster, adoption and rescue placement
• Provides daily management and support for canine foster, rescue and volunteer programs
• Provides backup support for feline/small animal foster, rescue, volunteer, and marketing/special events programs as needed
• Works with other members of the Department to identify areas where lifesaving or volunteer improvements are needed, develops programs, reviews and analyzes statistical data to detect trends, sets goals and monitors program effectiveness, recruits and trains new talent to address those needs, provides regular program updates and summary reports
• Recruits, interviews, trains, evaluates, directs and, as necessary, dismisses volunteers, rescues and fosters
• Conducts training classes for staff, volunteers, fosters, and the public in a variety of relevant topics
• Develops, maintains, and implements policies and procedures, records, manuals, and volunteer job descriptions as it pertains to rescue, foster and volunteer programs, and other lifesaving initiatives
• Develops marketing content for programs, services, opportunities and animals available for foster or rescue transfer via all available marketing mediums
• Identifies and enlists support from external sponsors, businesses, organizations and stakeholders to help in achieving departmental goals
• Acts as lead coordinator for animal welfare coalition(s) and works with department leadership to carry out coalition goals, objectives, and direction
Physical requirements and work environment:
• The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, chemicals, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Will be subject to animal bites and/or scratches. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may regularly be required to walk, reach with hands and/or arms and lift up to 50 lbs.
Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:
• Completion of a Bachelor's Degree in Animal Sciences or similar animal welfare field, and two years of experience at a shelter in a senior or leadership role, preferably in an open admission setting. Candidates must also possess supervisory experience overseeing paid employees or volunteers, along with hands-on experience working with shelter animals
• A valid Illinois Driver's License in good standing
The preferred candidate will possess:
• A Professional Dog Trainer Certification or Animal Behavior Certification
