DuPage County Court Extends Limited Court Operations

DuPage County Chief Judge Daniel P. Guerin today issued an Administrative Order rescheduling most criminal and civil matters set in the 18th Judicial Circuit Court through May 15, 2020. Matters will be rescheduled 30-60 days from the currently scheduled court date. The Circuit Court Clerk will reschedule court dates and the future dates can be viewed at the Clerk’s website by attorneys at eaccess.18thjudicial.org and the general public at epay.18thjudicial.org

In addition to this notice, the Circuit Court Clerk will also send notice by mail on the following matters:

• Criminal Misdemeanor

•Traffic

• Juvenile

• Specialty Courts (Drug Court, MICAP, Veteran’s Court and FOCUS Courts)

• Small Claims

• Foreclosures and Forcibles (Evictions)

• Self-Represented Litigants in Domestic Relations matters Pursuant to the Administrative Order, all traffic cases are rescheduled and the following courtrooms closed through May 15, 2020:

• Downers Grove Traffic Court

• Addison Traffic Court

• Traffic Courtrooms 1001 & 1003 inside the DuPage Courthouse

The DuPage County Courthouse remains open and will conduct essential court business on a limited scale consistent with this order. Whenever possible, court proceedings will be conducted using telephone and video conferencing. The following matters will proceed as originally scheduled:

• Bail Hearings

•Felony and Misdemeanor matters with in-custody defendants or speedy trial demands

• Juvenile Detention and Shelter Care Hearings and matters with in-custody minors

• Petitions and Hearings on emergency and plenary orders of protection, stalking no-contact orders, civil no-contact orders and firearm restraining orders

• Summary Suspension Hearings

• Mental Health Hearings

• Emergency Motions

No jury trials will take place before May 18th, 2020. No marriage or civil union ceremonies will take place before May 22nd, 2020. The Safe Harbor Children’s Waiting Room and the DuPage County Law Library remain closed until May 18th, 2020.

Chief Judge Guerin stated, “We continue to adjust court operations in light of the evolving circumstances related to the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain committed to ensuring access to justice for essential court business while also protecting the health and safety of courthouse employees and the public”.
