The VAC of DuPage is a distinct unit of local government created by State Law and funded by DuPage County. The VAC is an annual one-time emergency assistance program designed to help veterans that find themselves in need of financial assistance. The VAC
is managed by a Board of Directors who are Veterans representing the various Veteran organizations in DuPage County.
Made possible by dedicated veterans via the Military Veterans Assistance Act /Illinois Compiled Statutes and the Intergovernmental Agreement between the County of DuPage and the Veterans Assistance Commission, the VAC can provide an additional link in
your life to assist you to get through some difficult times.
Mission Statement
The mission of the Veterans Assistance Commission of DuPage County, Illinois, is to provide emergency financial assistance to indigent veterans and their families. To seek first to understand and to improve the economic well being and quality of life
for the veterans of DuPage County, who have served our country honorably, in the Armed Forces of the United States. The VAC also provides non-financial services and seeks to identify and provide for other needs that Veterans and their families may
have.
Examples of Assistance
A partial listing of available services provided include assistance with the following:
- Mortgage or rent payments.
- Utility payments.
- Emergency medical prescription.
- VA Medical Transportation needs.
- Burial expenses.
- Work or Home related expenses.
- Food/Family Essentials
- Auto Expenses
The VAC of DuPage also offers information and referral, location and retrieval of discharge documents, and other services for the Veteran Community.
Board Meetings
The Veterans Assistance Commission monthly board meeting meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 PM in the second floor cafeteria in building 421 N. County Farm Road in Wheaton. See Agenda and Minutes for the agenda of the next monthly meeting.
